Screen Printing

Screen Printing

Often used for decorating T-shirts, tote bags and notebooks, screen printing is a cost effective and quality method of decoration. A negative of your image is transferred onto a silk screen made from very fine mesh. The screen is lowered onto the item and special screen printing ink is forced through the fine mesh of the screen transferring the positive image of your design onto the article. Printing is usually done on manually operated screen printing machines. If you have more than one colour in your design a separate screen is required for each colour. An industry standard preparation fee applies for each colour to be printed. Exposed silk screens are not usually kept however your artwork is retained for future use should a re-run of the (identical) design be required.

Pad Printing

Pad printing offers many advantages over screen printing as 3 dimensional objects of almost any shape can be printed. Also called Tampo printing, this process uses an etched silicone rubber pad that transfers ink cleanly onto the product. Because such a wide range of inks are available, and because of the flexibility of the silicone pad, almost any material and surface can be printed. As with most other processes, a preparation fee also applies for set up.

Transfer

Transfer Printing

A transfer for printing is produced in a similar manner to the very popular temporary tattoos produced in our industry. Your design is first printed on to paper backed transfer material. The design is then transferred onto the product by heating the transfer in a heat press to a temperature hot enough for it to release from the backing paper. The transfer material then imbeds your image onto the item. Transfers are often used as a replacement for screen printing where a design is multi-coloured, as this allows us to bypass the cost for multiple screens. Note however that transfers tend not to have the longevity or quality that screen printing provides. A setup fee applies for the transfer process.

Embroidery

Not just something your grandma does, embroidery can be a very effective and high quality way of decorating items such as caps, polo shirts and conference satchels. This method of decoration is usually more expensive than screen printing, depending where the embroidery is carried out. For example if done at point of manufacture, usually China, then the cost is significantly cheaper. Pricing for embroidery is calculated on the number of stitches in your proposed design, which makes this a preferred technique for smaller designs.

Foil Stamping

Foil Stamping

This requires the production of a stamping die, which stamps your design onto the item using printing foils. Various coloured foils are available however the most common colours are metallic silver and gold. Exact PMS colour matching is not available for this decoration process. It is used mainly on leather folders, compendiums and bags. Due to the high temperatures required for application it is used selectively on synthetic materials. We always liaise with our decorator on what can and can't be foil stamped on a product-by-product basis, as many synthetic materials cannot cope with high temperatures used.

Embossing

This decoration method literally creates a good impression! It is often used in high end leather and synthetic leather products such as laptop bags, compendiums and folders. Your design is pressed into the leather or synthetic material of the product in a similar manner to foil printing. Suitability for this decoration method will depend on the item. Again, we will always advise whether or not the item you have chosen can be embossed.

Laser Engraving

Laser Engraving

Many of our conference items carry metal engraving plates and you will find them on things such as compendiums and folders. In these instances we laser engrave onto those metal plates and badges. Laser engraving can also be done on pens, keyrings and other metal items as well as wooden items such as boxes and frames. This method is often used by our clients who seek a subtle upmarket presentation of their logo or design on the product.
